Hello and welcome to SILT, the pop culture and lifestyle publication by me, Alanna Duffield.
I’ve been a writer for most of my adult life and have been published in Cosmopolitan, Metro, Stylist, Dear Damsels and the BBC. Alongside this, I’m also a creative/copywriter, working for the likes of Google, Aston Martin, Tattoodo and MarieMur, as well as multiple creative agencies.
Want to find out more about my work outside of this Substack? Have a snoop through the examples below:

What subscribers can expect
Pop culture and lifestyle addicts, you’ve found your home here!
All SILT subscribers get access to a weekly article delivered to your inbox every Sunday morning. These essays will be carefully crafted on a cultural hot topic, or my personal experiences. They’re typically around a 6-minute read.
Paid subscribers get additional access to Ask Alanna—the agony aunt-style advice column where you can submit your own questions. Here, we’ve discussed issues of location tracking, infidelity, burner accounts, unrequited love and much more. You can expect these around twice a month.
There are 2 options for paid subscribers: £3.50 a month for a rolling contract, or £2.50 a month if you select the annual option. Much more rewarding than a coffee, even if I do say so myself…

What subscribers are saying
Don’t just take my word for it…
You’ll also notice that my subscribers and I love to dive even deeper into the discourse in the comments of each post. Do join in! Everyone is lovely and friendly.
Why “SILT”?
The word silt literally means sand or soil that’s carried along by flowing water and then dropped, especially at a bend in a river or at a river's opening. I’ve always found it to be a particularly beautiful, sibilant word.
In the context of this newsletter, SILT represents an endlessly moving discourse, sinking and surfacing, changing over time, but always held up by the current.
Collaborations and brand partnerships
If you have an event, product or experience you think would interest SILT’s subscribers, subscribe to drop me a message. I’m always happy to hear from - and write about - brands and individuals who align with our readership. Sustainable, minority-founded and LGBTQ+-friendly brands are particularly encouraged!
Already, SILT has partnered with bestselling jewellery brand D.Louise, and ethical sex education platform Make Love Not Porn.
So there you have it. If you have any questions, pop them in the comments below. I try to get back to everyone.
