"But my advice now is to go for a partner you’d actually be friends with" -> This! I'm always shocked when I meet couples who just dont seem to have anything in common. You spend so much time together in a relationship, it's like a friendship on steroids.
I've always said that my type is a woman who loves coffee and reading. When I was younger, people would laugh at me and call me superficial and I even thought at first it was a bit silly, but the more I think about it...
I'm recently divorced and my ex- has no interest in coffee or reading. In over a decade together, she even refused to make me coffee!
Physically my type was always the nerdy intellectual with glasses.
When I look back on my relationships, the one that still sits with me even though it was topsy-turvy but also easily the most passionate and the best match for me was the woman who...was intellectual, with glasses, and devoured coffee and books. I think those interests say a lot about personality type and potential matches.
I've never used a dating app (and don't plan to), but if I did, I think I'd filter out (pun very much intended) the non-coffee drinkers and non-readers.
I also had to learn this lesson as I aged (kind of what my whole Substack is about…my journey to the right match via many, many wrong ones 🤣🙈). This piece definitely resonated.
OMG, Charlie Hunnam aka "Pete Dunham" 🙈 He did me in too - I was obsessed 😂
He was just so fanciable wasn’t he?? 😩😩
Ahhh Tom and Charlie - the loves of my teenage life. Maybe there’s a compromise eg. older Tom in his cardie and specs 🤓
Omg yes, Tom Hardy reading those BBC bedtime stories still melts me into the ground 🫠🥰

Exactly!! More than that, there are so many couple who seem to literally dislike each other?? Like you know you’re free to go, right? 😂
Haha yes the ol' ball and chain. Why did you marry that person if you hate then so much 😂. Of course arranged and forced marriages aside.
lovely piece!!
Thank you 🌷🌷
